John Dye: 97 vs 07

John laying it down in 2007

Panny master at the spot

Rattle the cups, John Dye interview for ya'. John was killing it way before 97 but his interview in Ride UK back then laid the foundations for my entire riding life thus far! That and Road Fools one know what I meen. My generation of UK riders grew up with Union and always held everything these Southerners did in high regard and still do. Here's John with another belter.....

"There's a place for cheese and thats in the fridge" You said that in 97, if you were to use the same term in 2007 what or who would it apply to?
I would'nt run that quote again,i think i only used it once and that was off the cuff, cant even remember what it was in reference to?it got well known cause they printed it on the cover and quoted me...i have progressed in profanity and i would besmirch someone or something in much more stately manner.

What would you say is the most dramatic attitude change for young bmx'ers now in comparison to 97?
Obviously the internet has given more voice to people who are stupid and know fuck all about bmx but are quite apt at building websites they can almost legitamise themselves on that alone.by the same nature its given people on the clued up side the same power, but the idiots who ride less always spend more time at the computer giving views that are usually invalid and un educated seem to get more attention.people obsessing over one type of riding,i dont know why some people even ride.

I don't have this issue anymore, I vomited on it and my whole collection after my first ever cider drinking session when I was 15, good times.

Who would you say was the British Champion freestyler in 97, and who would you say it is now? (even though officially James Newrick is in 08)
I go with grot bags! cause he worked it,how many pics in ride did he have that year...more than anyone else, did he deserve it-no way.but ya gotta love the bags!
now i dont give a shit either...but how can anyone be the champ of 08 when we aint even one month in?

In 1997 did you ever imagine that in 10 years time you'd be working at Ride UK?
Of course not.and i would have told you there's no chance 10 years ago,you could roll that answer foward 10 years pretty much.other than big ed alot of people with much higher rankingthan me at dig have been pecking in on ride.things change-look at dig and ride they are not the same mags as they were in 97,they changed just like everything else has.

Hows Bicycle Union changed in these 10 years?
Well in 97 we had a few t shirt and sweatshirt prints and were flapping around filming for nails in the coffin, now we are underway for a whole parts range, the graphics have evolved alot and
we have a bunch of distro's worldwide and a good team of usa and uk heads.we did have usa and uk riders in 97 tho too just not as many.
a few people from 97 are still on too, thats a long run!

More spot action, 360...

Can you give me the status of Cyclone in 97 and it's status now?
In 97 cyclone was just getting going into a direction of a good shop, now its long gone and its a bummer cause they fuckin burnt alot of bridges...it was a good place for years, but it ended very questionable and there was no need for it to,they owe me ALOT of money and i aint the only one.

Cyclone

If you had time travel skills and could go back to 97 to change something, don't have to be BMX what would you adjust so that it changes the course of history 10 years later?
Strewth ya could do something with that question couldnt ya,i'll keep it simple.i'd go back and ride all the spots that got plowed back in those days but with todays riding style-that would be weird.

And to finish up give me your top 3 youtube vids!
